Located on Lake Michigan, this former coach house was once part of a large neo-classical mansion designed by acclaimed architect Benjamin Marshall in 1910. The original ten-acre estate was razed and subdivided in 1960. The elegant residence that remains has an enviable bluff-side location and a beautifully ornate limestone facade.
Now a single-family home, GGC worked alongside the team at Jessica Lagrange Interiors in updating the residence. JLI’s design transformed the interior into a more thoughtful integration with the home’s historic architecture. Hand-crafted luxury design details were selected throughout showcasing a refined classical aesthetic.
The new kitchen design was intent on reflecting the lifestyle of an active family with a need for an inviting communal space. The layout encompasses an expanded kitchen work zone, an island with seating, a built-in dining area, and a beverage center. The objective was to create a timeless design where multiple family members can comfortably participate in meal preparation, entertain guests, share a private conversation, or relax in a quiet moment.
With the demands of an active family, the client was also intent on having a primary bath with the ambiance of a wellness spa. The new design has a restorative and calming atmosphere in which to decompress from the day. The tranquility of the room is now in keeping with the timeless elegance of the home’s historic character.
