Located in Highland Park just north of Chicago, this home is situated on a winding ravine that feeds into nearby Lake Michigan. Andrea Goldman Design and Robbins Architecture, working with Goldberg General Contracting, also in Chicago, was inspired by the property’s landscape to create an interior that blended with the natural beauty outside.
Earth tones are used throughout the kitchen and open concept great room to mimic that of the property. Aiming to achieve a warm modernism, custom rift white oak cabinetry is used to conceal many of the appliances, creating a minimalist aesthetic throughout the kitchen and living space. Quartzite in Taj Green for the countertops and backsplash extend the natural vibe. Large window walls off the kitchen and great room allow for the bountiful backdrop along with the clients’ large art collection.
A large, two-level island centers the kitchen, providing seating on one side and prep space on the other. The working space includes a Perrin & Rowe sink and faucet, two Bosch dishwashers and Wolf microwave oven. On the opposite wall, a full-length butler’s pantry is paired with a Wolf cooktop and warming drawer and Best range hood liner.
The side walls of the kitchen are also active work spaces. One side houses the paneled Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, along with a 30″ Wolf wall oven. On the other side, a bar area includes a Sub-Zero undercounter refrigerator and wine unit.
